3 Unique Wines to Try If You’re Looking for Something New
If you’re feeling stuck in a Pinot Grigio or Cabernet rut and want to branch out, here are three fantastic wines to explore. These picks are approachable, food-friendly, and just different enough to spark your curiosity—without being too out there. Ready to try something new? 🍑 Gavi Let’s start in Northern Italy, in the Piedmont region, where the charming white wine Gavi originates. It’s named after the town of Gavi, not the grape--Cortese is the variety behind this crisp, aromatic wine. Expect floral notes, juicy peach, and a lively freshness that makes it a total crowd-pleaser. If you like: Pinot Grigio Try it with: Creamy seafood pasta or risotto 🍓 Frappato Next, let’s head south to the island of Sicily. Frappato is a light-bodied red that bursts with red fruit flavors—think strawberries and cherries—with layers of spice like pepper, cinnamon, and a touch of tobacco. It's like a spicy Pinot Noir with a Mediterranean twist. If you like: Lighter reds with personality Try it with: Pizza, spaghetti, or roasted chicken 🍇 Petit Verdot Originally a blending grape in Bordeaux, Petit Verdot has found a bold new identity in California and Washington. It’s full-bodied and deeply colored, but what makes it special is its floral side—notes of violet, lilac, and herbs like sage. Many winemakers age it in oak to add vanilla and nutty depth. If you like: Bold reds like Syrah or Cabernet Sauvignon Try it with: Grilled meats, BBQ, or a bold cheese board Which of these wines are you most excited to try?
