Have you ever heard someone refer to a wine as light-bodied or full-bodied? What does that even mean?
The body of a wine is the weight of the wine. How heavy does it feel in your mouth? The best way to think about it (I think) is to compare it to different types of milk. Light bodied wine is like skim milk.
For those like me that are lactose intolerant, your scale looks like:
Now if you’re at the store looking for a bottle of wine with a specific body, one way to predict that body is the alcohol level! For dry wines (aka not sweet wines), generally the higher the alcohol level the more fuller bodied the wine is. Did you learn something new? Book an in-person or virtual private wine tasting to deep dive into all things wine. We’ll talk about body, tasting notes, aromas, acidity, and tannins. And of course, we’ll drink lots of great wine!
