Have you ever gone wine tasting and been told your wine smells like lemon, fresh herbs, and seashells, and thought… “WTH? I don’t smell those things in the wine!” Maybe you assumed there was something wrong with your nose. Let me be the first to tell you, there is nothing wrong with your sniffing ability. Detecting aromas in wine takes practice! Plus everyone smells different things. Try this trick whenever you’re stuck and not sure what you smell in your wine: Simply choose two very different smells that you’re familiar with. For white wine I like to use lemon vs pineapple. And for reds, I often use cranberry vs figs! Think of each of these aromas and then smell your wine. Simply decide which smell your wine smells *most* like… and you have to choose one. Ta-da, you did it! You smelled something in your glass of wine! Wanna learn more wine tasting tricks like this one?
