Swill or Swell: Episode 19

Mionetto Prosecco Rosé

watch the episode here
Welcome to Swill or Swell, a weekly series where I taste grocery store wines and let you know if they’re worth the buck or just meant for the drain!

CAVEAT! As you read this, please keep in mind that wine is subjective! This means that everyone enjoys different things and something I like might not be something you like and vice versa. I’ll be as objective as I can with facts about the wine’s quality, but in the end if your opinion differs from mine...that’s perfectly fine! Wine is only worth drinking if YOU like drinking it!

LET’S INTRODUCE THE WINE
Today I’ll be tasting the Mionetto Prosecco Rosé from Total Wine for $11.99! The prices may vary depending on where you are, but a bubbly under $15 is always a good deal.
MIONETTO PROSECCO ROSE FUN FACTS
Let’s talk about the varietal, Prosecco.
  • Prosecco is made with a grape called Glera.
  • To get the pink look in this particular wine, they also add a grape called Pinot Nero (this specific wine is 90% Pinot Nero, and 10% Glera).
  • Prosecco is only real and true if it’s from Prosecco, Italy.
  • The grape used to make the wine used to be called Prosecco, and because of this anyone, anywhere was making wine with the Prosecco grape and calling it Prosecco, when it really wasn’t. Italy grew tired of this and eventually found a region named Prosecco in Italy, where they then designated that as the home of the Prosecco wine we all know and love.
WINE TASTING NOTES
Look: Light and pale pink - very pretty
Smell: Floral, and some fruitiness like peach and strawberry
Taste: It has a creamy taste to it (not buttery)
Think:
Food Pairing - Seafood dishes, and mexican food
Occasion - Get togethers, girls night, a night in. Just a really versatile, relaxing wine
Rating - 100% a swell! I would buy this again.
